Want to be part of a team that cheers on your football team and competes at competitions? Join the AHS cheer team, where you will learn to tumble, stunt, jump, and cheer! No experience necessary, but those with backhandsprings and tucks are strongly encouraged to attend.

TRYOUTS
WHEN: MAY 11th-14th 6:00-8:30 P.M.
WHERE: SOUTH CAMPUS LOWER GYM *Enter through Door D*
WHO: Open to all physically and academically eligible AHS students entering grades 9-12 during the 2021-2022 school year.
WHAT: During these tryouts athletes will be taught cheers, a dance, jumps, stunts, and tumbling skills which will be performed on the last tryout day. Please note, tumbling is highly desired, but not required to make the team. Those with a back handspring or tuck are encouraged to tryout. Athletes will also need to fill out a Tryout Application Form. Athletes will need to dress according to WIAA Spirit safety requirements. Athletes will not be allowed to wear jewelry, baggy clothes, or have long nails. They should wear athletic shoes, ideally cheer shoes, and have their hair completely up in a ponytail. Please bring a water bottle. Athletes will be informed of team placement via email on Saturday May 15th.
The Tryout Application Google Form is due Monday May 3rd: https://forms.gle/ckZyfjTgqmfDXNUP6 A mandatory pre-tryout parent and athlete meeting will take place on Monday May 10th at 6:00 p.m. in the North Campus Junior Study Hall to go through more details. The tryout waivers will be collected at this meeting. *Enter through Door 1*
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Athletes will practice 2-3 times a week, attend two weekly weight room sessions, cheer at all Home Varsity football games, perform at special events, plus compete at 6-7 competitions a year, including the UCA Nationals Qualifier and WACPC State Tournament. Attendance is mandatory. The Fall season lasts from June 2021-mid/late October 2022 plus Playoff Football Games. Those who wish to compete must attend the All-Year season from June 2021-late February 2022 plus Playoff Basketball Games.
The cost to participate in this program for a new athlete is approximately $700-$1000 depending on how many camps/clinics the team decides to attend. These fees cover each individual’s camp instruction and expenses, warmups, backpacks, shoes, poms, and other individual supplies. Many of these supplies will last all four years. The team participates in numerous fundraisers throughout the year as well.
Athletes also show community support by attending parades and helping run Youth Cheer Clinics and Camps throughout the season.
